Once bitten
I don't know when I first got bitten by the travel bug.
I was fortunate growing up with my dad who fostered that sense of adventure and travel. My dad has always been fearless, and I am so grateful he instilled that sense of adventure in my sister and me. Sometimes, it's led to some not-so-great decisions. But, most of the time, it's led to some really great stories.
What struck me most growing up with a dad who loved to travel was how different he became on a trip. Get my hard-ass, serious, tight-wad of a dad on vacation, and he was the chillest dude ever, sparing no expense as long as it was fun. Vacation was freedom from rigidity and rules.
I totally get that now as an adult, and, truthfully, one of my favorite things in the whole world is that feeling when you land in a new destination, or you head out to explore a new area. It's like seeing the world through a baby's eyes, where every thing is new and wondrous. That's when I feel the most alive.
It's a feeling I want to capture again and again. And why I'll always be planning my next adventure.
Can you relate? How do you feel when you are exploring a new place? And was there a moment in your life when you first fell in love with travel?
I look forward to hearing about your experiences. In the meantime, happy trails!
